Hourly to salary calculator
Multiply your hourly wage by 2,080 to get your yearly pay. That’s 40 hours × 52 weeks. The quick shortcut: double the hourly rate and add three zeros. So $25 an hour is about $50,000. The exact answer is $52,000.
$25.00 × 40 hours × 52 weeks. Estimated take-home: $43,962 (single filer, 2026).
| Per | Gross | Est. take-home |
|---|---|---|
| Year | $52,000.00 | $43,962.00 |
| Month | $4,333.33 | $3,663.50 |
| Biweekly | $2,000.00 | $1,690.85 |
| Week | $1,000.00 | $845.42 |
| Day (8 hrs) | $200.00 | $169.08 |
The formula
Yearly pay = hourly wage × hours per week × weeks per year. Monthly pay is yearly pay ÷ 12. It is not weekly pay × 4. The reason is simple. A month averages 4.33 weeks, not 4. Biweekly pay is yearly pay ÷ 26.
Worked example: $25 an hour, 40 hours, 52 weeks
- $25 × 40 = $1,000 a week.
- $1,000 × 52 = $52,000 a year.
- $52,000 ÷ 12 = $4,333.33 a month; ÷ 26 = $2,000 every two weeks.
Here are the estimated 2026 taxes on that $52,000 for a single filer.
- Taxable income: $52,000 − $16,100 standard deduction = $35,900.
- Federal income tax by bracket: 10% × $12,400 = $1,240.00; 12% × $23,500 = $2,820.00. Total $4,060.00; your top (marginal) rate is 12%.
- Social Security: 6.2% × $52,000 = $3,224.00.
- Medicare: 1.45% × $52,000 = $754.00.
- Take-home before state tax: $52,000 − $4,060.00 − $3,978.00 = $43,962 (15.46% effective rate).

Frequently asked questions
How many work hours are in a year?
A full-time year is 2,080 hours: 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. Some employers use 2,088 or 2,096 hours in years with extra paydays. That changes the result by well under 1%. It barely matters.
Do paid holidays and vacation count?
Yes. If your time off is paid, keep 52 weeks. If your time off is unpaid, enter fewer weeks. Two unpaid weeks at $25 an hour drop yearly pay from $52,000 to $50,000. That's $2,000 gone.
Why is monthly pay not hourly × 160?
160 hours assumes exactly four weeks a month. A year has 52 weeks. So the average month has 4.33 weeks. In other words, a 40-hour month is about 173.3 hours, not 160.
Does this include overtime?
No. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, hours over 40 in a workweek pay at least 1.5×. Use the overtime calculator to add them.
Sources and assumptions
These are estimates. They assume a single filer with W-2 wages only and the 2026 standard deduction. They assume no pre-tax deductions, like a 401(k) or health insurance, and no credits. Your real withholding depends on your W-4. This is not tax advice.
